Marketing and Communications Specialist (10hrs/weekly)
QuakeLab is on the search for Marketing and Communications Specialists! This is a fifteen-hours weekly contract position with an hourly rate of CA$50. This is a fully remote role but may require some travel.
Who is a Marketing and Communications Specialist?
Marketing and Communications Specialists at QuakeLab are focused on two areas of work: External Marketing and Communications and Media Relations and Public Appearances for QuakeLab’s CEO. Our Marketing and Communications Specialist will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships between the company or brand they represent and the outside world. This will include building and executing a communications and marketing plan focused on brand recognition, awareness, sales, and positioning QuakeLab as a knowledge hub. This will be accomplished through social media, email marketing, speaking engagements, contributor slots (written, spoken etc.)
How does the Marketing and Communication Specialist work each other QL team members and clients?
The Marketing and Communications Specialist will be working most closely with the QuakeLab CEO and the Project Director. Although you may occasionally liaise with the wider team for exploratory or informational meetings or brainstorming, your day to day work will be with the two people mentioned above.
Note: As a contractor, your work will be assessed based on the quality and delivery and quality of the outcomes (deliverables).

The Marketing and Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating a marketing and communications plan. It must be noted, QuakeLab is not in need of a strategy, but rather a plan that can be excellently executed. The creation and execution of the plan will be targeted toward providing valuable, tactical, and actionable guidance, as well as strategies and insights from QuakeLab. This plan should be aligned with QuakeLab's objective of being an equity and knowledge hub that produces valuable, and innovative information. This plan will: - guide how QuakeLab communicates with our target audience, promotes our brand, and achieves our goals (outlined in the plan); - align our message, channels and tactics with marketing objectives and budget; - include documented guidelines for accessibility; - tactically lay out what actions will be taken, where and when. |

Execute the plan after feedback and approval from QuakeLab's management and CEO. The execution of the marketing and communications plan will need to include milestones, goals, and targets that can be referenced for implementation. Execution of the marketing and communications plan will include: - creating unique and evergreen content for multiple channels; - creating unique and evergreen content for email marketing; - circulating created content on channels outlined in the plan; - track the success of content measured against stated goals, targets and milestones outlined on the plan; - course correct based on external feedback. |

The Marketing and Communications Specialist will support the QuakeLab CEO on media engagements and speaking opportunities (podcasts, keynotes, publication contributions, etc.) This includes - identify, pitch, seek out and apply for speaking engagements and media appearances aligned with the organization's mission, vision and goals; - write proposals, edit copy, and create supporting materials (slide decks, handouts, etc.) for speaking engagements and media appearances; - where necessary, collect and use materials from speaking engagements and media appearances for marketing and communications. |

The Marketing and Communications Specialist will be integral in directly marketing QuakeLab's services and products through similar channels and methods above. This marketing will include: - creating and sharing content and materials to be used for marketing. This may include content for social media, and email content, and creation of slide decks, info sheets, videos, etc.; - work with the Project Director to ensure there is a throughline from sales to marketing. |

We’ll be reviewing applications on a rolling basis so we’ll contact you after reviewing your application and will invite you to an interview. Here’s what you can expect from the interview:
A 45minute long interview with pre-sent questions focusing on your skills and experience;
You will be asked to provide a marketing and communications portfolio;
A second interview may be required for follow up questions. There is a chance we may just do this over email!
At this stage we will be requesting and checking your references;
If you are successful in the first two interviews, you will be invited to participate in a third interview that will give you an opportunity to interview us! We think of the recruitment process as a reciprocal process and you should take this opportunity to establish if we’re a good fit for you;
If you are successful we will make you an initial offer over email, if you accept, we will share a contract and together, determine a start date;
You will be compensated for your time interviewing with us.
